This just popped intoi my head after many years, I wonder if other Kiwis out there remember it. In the 1970’s when I was a kid there was a TV advert for Twisties (a cheese flavoured corn snack/crisp/chip thingy). It had a spitfire in it, and it was flown by a character called Squadron Leader Rupert Baddiley-Bent. He is shot down by a Messerschmittt and he exclaims, “Dash it all, I’ve bawt it!” He then gathers his packet of Twisties and bails out. I remember it vaguely, were the Spitfire and ME109 taken from stock footage or from the Battle of Britain movie? Great advert, i used to love it as a 10ish year old.

Could it have been in B&W as a way of setting the mood, Al?
No, I was really thinking black and white as in 405 lines, pre 625 lines etc. Murray Mints had one of the very first t.v. ads in 1955, they were BIG in the confectionary industry. I think their fortunes had faded by the ’80’s so I’ll stick with late ’60’s or 70’s as a guess for this particular ad.
Or was it all another of those wierd, pschedelic, LSD induced, flashback/false memory/trauma things we all apparently suffered from in those days? Them Murray Mints was mean mothers! 😮

I was on the team that painted the Mustang bright yellow and blue. I have some photos which I intend to scan very soon and post here if anyone’s interested.

Has anyone here ever seen the advert made in New Zealand for Singapore’s Tiger Beer in 1992?
It featured a Mustang, Corsair, Harvard and others in an air race. I was in it, yet to this day never saw the final result. What’s more, I was on the team that painted the Mustang bright yellow and blue. I have some photos which I intend to scan very soon and post here if anyone’s interested. I’d love to see that advert. Happy memories of the RNZAF in its heyday (ie making TV ad with Warbirds and a French lingere’ model)

I’m surprised this has never been mentioned on the forum before, given the level of interest in the Spitfire. C’mon Mk. 12, tell us which Spit and who flew it!

Having to dig deep on this one. I remember the ad.
I am pretty sure we are talking early 1980’s here and MH434 sticks in my mind.
I will investigate.

It was MH434, maybe Neil Williams?

Indeed he did. In fact he’d have fitted in very well with Fairfax and Carstairs in Allo Allo!
Speaking of adverts and aircraft, in the 1970’s/80’s there was often an advert in magazines, a full page colour advert. It advertised Jim Beam I think and the photo looked out the window of an Air Force building, with a leather flying jacket in the foreground, and out the window was a beautiful silver B17. Was this from a TV advert? Or simply was it just a one-off still only for magazine ads? It ran several years. It was often on the back page of magazines like The New Zealand Listener (a TV listing mag). If I find an example I’ll scan it to show you all.
Does anyone know what I mean? If so, was it done in the UK, or the USA?
