This afternoon in London’s Hyde Park a service and unveiling was undertaken to mark the special relationship between New Zealand and the UK.
Even though as a land mass New Zealand is slightly larger than the UK, it’s population at the time of WW1 was just over 1m, it suffered in excess of 18,000 dead, in WW2 she was to loose 12,000 of her young men.
The memorial has been called the South Stand and features 16 cross-shaped bronze pillars to siginify the shared sacrifice of Britain and New Zealand during wartime. 250,000 Kiwis have served along side the UK cousins in the various conflicts of the 20th Century.

Thanks Ian
Saw the unveiling ceremony on TV this evening, lots of Royal family and other dignatories and of course Kiwis. I am looking forward to visiting this unique and IMO great looking monument.
