It is not quite clear what happened, but this is the best guess scenario I found online from someone driving similar tugs. The tug was bringing the 747 (PH-BFN) to gate E19. The tug braked while not in a straight line with the 747. The forward momentum of some 190000kgs of plane made the plane go forward effectively dragging the tug behind (underneath) it.
Speeding with tugs is rather common at AMS. Not too long ago a similar incident happened with a Transavia 737. Perhaps more care will be taken in future… then again, apparantly something similar nearly happened today with a KLM 767.
Fortunately there are no personal injuries.

A similar thing happened here last year with a tug and a brand new Qantas A330 that hadn’t even commenced it’s first revenue service……i’ll see if i can chase up the photos
