Maybe my feedback never reached Airliner World but here is the statement that I wrote and I think that this is a normal feedback:
Hello „Airliner World“!
As a regular reader of your magazine I would like to comment your article about Korean Air.
It´s really sad that there is absolutely no word about the fact that Korean Air operated MD-82´s and MD-83`s from 1985 until the end of 2002. The MD-82 offered a capacity for 164 passengers and the MD-83 had 160 seats.
The MD-80 played a vital part in Korean Air´s development and replaced the B727. The replacement of the MD-80 at Korean Air was probably (like it is at some other airlines with plans to retire this type of aircraft) not really based on operational reasons.
In fact Korean Air took delivery of some MD-80´s in 1995 and three aircraft in 1996! Korean Air (maybe through strong influence by Boeing which was in the end not very sucessful to generate B737´s sales at loyal MD-80-costumers AFTER the „merger“ of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas) wanted to buy B737´s and was not in the operational need to do it.
Keep up your work!
Yours sincerely,
Peter Breiting/Author of „MD-80-Bordbuch“
