Kyoto Accord. Who has signed i

Somone mentioned the US in reference to the Kyoto accord. Which counties have yet to sign on? Actually signed not just preached about it? We know the US position. What about some others?

The Canadian government done alot of preaching but still hasn’t signed. Of course we are Satans little friend as someone said so that probably explains it.

Any others?

Regards

RE: Greenie brainwashing…

I agree with Mixtec. The Koyoto treaty is the result of greenie brainwashing. The effects of man-made pollution are microscopic when compared to natural disasters like volcanos, forrest fires and normal planetary weather fluctuations. We have no hard-science basis to assert CO2 and temperature fluctuations ARE NOT normally occuring phenomenon for this planet.(This unsupported assertion is the basis for greenie global warming and hole-in-the-ozone hysteria). 3rd world countries support Koyoto because it shuts down industry in western nations. 3rd world industry would become wealthy in the process.

If there are local instances of air or water pollution, then the local governments need to take care of business, not some multi-national bungling bureaucracy.

RE: Kyoto Accord. Who has sign

Well I don’t believe everything I see on Discovery but the program I saw the other day was a little scary.
They showed that huge temperature changes over short periods are not only possible but have happened.
When organic material dies it normally rots on the land but some is also carried down rivers to be deposited in river deltas.
One of the byproducts of this rotting material is methane… a green house gas.
Much of this methane is trapped by the cool water.
Evidence has been found that warming the ocean relases methane which of course leads to more heating… which in turn releases more methane from cooler regions. Methane is not stable in the atmosphere and may last less than a decade. The material it decomposes into is CO2 which is also a greenhouse gas.
According to the research the recorded changes in temperature over history usually start with a release of methane and the subsequent increase triggers two more releases. Over a ten year period the temperature increases by about 8 degrees celcius. It would probably not be stoppable once it started but they don’t know what temperatures are required to start it. (A change of 8 degrees would have a massive effect on food production and would probably lead to famine.)
They showed footage of what looked like the sea on fire.
The surface was bubbling with methane which was burning.
The release was initiated by local drilling for oil… but it showed what could happen spontaneously if we don’t manage what we have.

I personally think that the Earth is self regulating and that Earth would never end up like Venus or Mars, but that doesn’t mean I think we are safe either.
Survival of the fittest doesn’t mean survival of the strongest. (Even small dinosaurs were much stronger than modern man).
We have altered the Earth to fit us and we have adapted to fit with it much as it is. If it were to change via another asteroid strike or through pollution raising temperatures and starting a chain reaction that greatly alters the weather then perhaps the cockroaches will do a better job in a few million years time.

RE: Kyoto Accord. Who has sign

pollution needs addressing on a globbal scale and the kyoto system made planiting trees attractive. it also meant the changes to factories, etc could be brought in gradually.

unfortunetly it all went itts up.

what really anoys me is that there are still significant numbers of americans who don’t belive in gloabl warming 😀 😀 😀 (i don’t know weather to alugh or cry)

RE: Kyoto Accord. Who has sign

Ive said it before on this forum that the kyoto treaty is a joke, it has nothing to do with pollution and everything to do with limiting industrial capacity (its an economic ploy). But rather than rehash that arguement, is there anyone here that thinks natural gas is a grossly under used, wasted (you can watch it burn off at any refinery or oil derek). Here in southern california, public buses use natural gas. If this were imitated in developing countrys where public transport is under maintained and belches huge levels of smog, now then we would be accomplishing something.

RE: Kyoto Accord. Who has sign

America signed the treaty, but when Bush got in they then refused to ratify it.
