It seems everyone here just raves about it….and we get it in for the Easter airshow down here…
I know it is a stunningly beautiful aircraft but what is it that makes it so magical in the flesh ?

this could be a start of a whole new thread but in general, are radials a lot more oilier than liquid cooled V’s ?

Get yourself a Yak 11 then, it’s not that oily.

Just don’t volunteer to clean the thing after it’s been flying.

Great stuff…thats description reminds me of the Sea Fury when it did high speed passes, damn fast for a piston engine aircraft !!
But I think the La-9 is even better looking.
…..can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait…..

what does it for me is….
…the sound and speed of the damn thing!
It roars past in a similar fashion to a bearcat, but the sound of it when it passes is like a deep ‘chug’, almost harley davidson like! It really is something special. Must be that 14 cylinder Ash-82 radial.
Well it floats my boat anyway!:D
You will love it over in NZ, you lucky beggers. I only saw it once properly, and i won’t forget that sound anytime soon.:p
