La Ferte Alais – Anyone wish to join me

I will be driving to the airshow at La Ferte Alais, from Hertfordshire. Does anyone wish to join me.

As yet I have to check the sailing times and costs, but I intend to set off early on Friday morning (13th May) and hope to arrive at La Fertais Alais in time to see some arrivals and practice displays.

Can anyone advise what the camping arrangements and facilities are like? Or are there reasonable B&B places near by?

I intend to leave at around 10am on Sunday in order to be back in Hertfordshire late afternoon.

I am happy to pick up or meet along the route, or indeed share travel costs with someone else who prefers to take thier own vehicle.

Alternatively, if there are any ‘intrepid chaufeurs’ who are thinking of flying there and would like some talking ballast, do let me know.

regards

tc

Merlin I was joking, it’s the Red Lion French style 😉

New dictionary definition required. Verb: Stewart1a; to ………….

Ian Pardon my ignorance. With the comments regarding traffic in the immediacy of LFA, I had visions of a rustic Bar/Restaurant one the outskirts of the airfield.

First round will be on me for being so gullible

Melvyn. I guess if one did exist we’d be meeting you at the l’auberge Lion Vermillion ?:p My knowledge of things French is quite minimal as my European travel is generally through France rather than to it. Pardon moi.

This year I’ll be going to airshows in France, Malta and the US and strongly suspect that France will prove to be the more challenging.

I’ll be there Saturday or Sunday – whichever looks to be the best weatherwise.
Would be good to meet a few other forumites and put faces to names – anywhere popular to hang out at LFA?

Does anyone have any progress news updates on the Mk.XIX Spit, PS890?

Hello merlin70,

In the latest Fana de l’Aviation, it’s mentionned PS890 has arrived to Southampton on March 19th.

Myself, Andy in Beds and Papa Lima will be there on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe nearer the time we could all arrange a time and place to meet up.

Sounds like a plan.

If traffic is likely to be a major issue, and there are no flying Taxi’s, I will probably take the Triumph. As George Orwell said “Two wheels good, four wheels bad”, or words to that effect.

Look forward to meeting Bart and Swiss Mustangs and it will be good to catchup with PL and the UK and Channel Islands contingent.

I choose to go to the F.A. airshow instead of the Duxford mai show.
But then from Brussels it’s a 4 hour drive from London it’s a different story;
La Ferte is something very different but wortwhile a visit.
Maybe we could meet there ?

I’m afraid my knowledge of La F.A. is 10 years out of date, but I can tell you the journey by Yak-11 is much quicker than by car. :p

Janie

I’m sure it is, but my inventory appears to be short of 1 No. Yak-11 or similar approved. I am more than happy to occupy a vacant Yak-11 seat or other and contribute appropriately to costs.

Mark

Will you settle for a CD of the weekends flying and clubhouse activities?

It would be wonderful if we paid the equivalent of even Californian prices here.
After a quick calculation, and remembering to convert imperial gallons to US, petrol here is nearly $6 a gallon.
LPG is looking more and more interesting, but I bet they’ll up the tax soon.

Actually, our gas prices are up there too (for us)…we’re paying $2.15 a gallon now where it’s usually about $1.60 to 1.70, and it’s only forecast to go higher as the summer goes on. Out in California they are paying about $3 to $3.25 a gallon right now…OPEC says that they are gonna increase production but for SOME reason the oil companies always seem to find SOME little way to keep prices high even after the price per gallon falls…refinery problems in Texas, stuff like that…
Ah well…time to convert the Jeep to Ethanol or a Hydrogen/water mix (or whatever the combination is that leaves no exhaust…)

Have you seen the shocking price of our gas? You would have been better off offerring to pay for your own transatlantic flight and getting the gas for free!

For anybody not wanting to stay at, or near the airfield, public transport is really very convenient.

La Ferte Alais is about 1hr from Paris (about 8 Euros return) on the RER then it’s only about 20mins walk to the airfield – normally outpacing the traffic queue.

Only downsides are that the trains are only about 1/hr – specially difficult on the Sunday (but they do run on time!), and the airfield is (very) uphill from the station.

I think there were some mutterings about traffic problems, possibly from the aforementioned Rearwin driver, in a recent thread.
