Franck – that Gustav shot is awesome – it looks so much meaner from the front!

Martin, would you be kind enough to transmit actual registration of the Swiss built MS 406?

So where were you when we were slagging you off then?

Friday: Les Ailes Anciennes at Le Bourget – seeing some most interesting stuff like a Lancaster Restoration…..
Saturday: Bad weather asked for a change of plans so it was Musée de l’Air & de l’Espace at Le Bourget and again Les Ailes Anciennes afterwards.
Sunday: Whole day at La Ferté – sunburned but happy.
Forgot to take my notes (mobile phone numbers, etc.) on Sunday – good for those that were slagging me off then…. (sorry Melvyn, Mike J, AiB, Papa Lima, etc…..)

Hi
just back from Paris and a bit knackered after a 7-hours journey….
The wannabe MS 406 (it’s a D-3801) is now based at Bex in Switzerland – they (the new owner’s name eludes me at present) painted the aircraft in French markings (Lafayette Squadron) in honor of the French pilots that fought bravely against the Luftwaffe and other odds 65 years ago.

I’d go for the second option. As long as the planes are registered in the country’s aviation register and meet their safety regulations there should be no trouble in flying them around europe, I guess it’s basically a matter of costs, taxes or simply they dont receive invitations (which means free gas and oil usually..).
Cheers

I’m sure others can elaborate more on this matter, but isn’t it something to do with foreign warbirds not maintaining the high standards required by the CAA to perform in the UK? IIRC, there was a situation in 1997 where European warbirds were not up to CAA standards, and so couldn’t appear at UK shows. This changed the following year, and since then European warbirds have made appearances at UK airshows, albeit rarely.
It may also have something to do with the cost of getting them over.

It would be great to see some of these aircraft over here, especially the Me 109 & MS 406. I believe the 406 is based in Switzerland. Unfortunately not speaking French at all well I wasn’t able to follow the commentary yesterday. I’m sure that someone here can give more details. I have always wondered why it is that some of the European aircraft appear over here, but not others?
