La Ferte Alais pictures 15/05/2005.

Hi All,
Sorry for being a bit of a slacker with these, but I only got back home late last night.. I went to the airshow on the Saturday with my brother (who very helpfully lives in Paris). The day started off wet and got wetter until about lunch time when the persistent rain cleared away, and we just had to put up with a series of heavy showers all afternoon. By mid morning most of crowd line had turned to a bog..

Which made walking around the show tents ‘interesting’..

Then during lunch the runway had a visitor…

I guess that this is why dogs should not be allowed at airshows! Anyway on with the show. I thought that given the conditions the organisers did a fantastic job, with aircraft in the air for almost the entire afternoon.

After the Australian or New Zealand (Apologosies) old fashioned hard hat, melvyn introduced a new protective gear at La Ferté.

This was the security hardhat that had to be signed for, in blood, at the start of each day.

Great photos – especially considering the conditions.
BTW, what is the twin engined aircraft with the twin tail ? (Apologies for ignorance)

CM

Dassault Flamant. The first Dassault aircraft. Prior to WW2 Dassault was Bloch, he changed his name when he was released from the concentration camp and took his brother’s resistance code name.

We brought the Memorial Flight one to several shows in the UK in the late 1990s.

I wonder if the pilot was above average or taking risk. Now, happymeal, I have the answer.

Even the best make mistakes and he hasn’t got much room for error.

Cub display

Despite what most of you think, the Cub display is a very well controled one, performed by Stephane Canu. It is a very well know act in France, called “Ademaï Aviator”. It is based on an early century film about a young fellow named Ademaï, just out of his farm, who wants to become an aviator. In one sequence of the film, he just hops in aplane and fly it… the best he can.
Stephane canu is a very skilled aerobatic pilot. His trajectories were clean, but you can not tell that from still pictures.

Great stuff, Jonathan. That 109G gets better every time I see it.

Question – what’s the German-painted biplane tangling with the SE5a replica?? Thought it was a Stearman at first, but I’m probably wrong!

Thanks,
I am afraid that I do not seem to have any of the MS406. Do you know if it flew on Saturday?

Great photos!!! Lots of nice photos on your website as well. Liked the photos of the race cars from Goodwood too. Went to the revival in 1999 and had a great time! As for La Ferte Alais, was there any T-28 there this year?

Lovely stuff Jonathan, have to agree the Cub does seem to be cutting it close with that wingtip.
It looks like it was a good and varied show despite the weather.

Do you have any photos of the MS406?

Cheers,
The Piper was an amazing display of flying, although he may have been cutting it a little too close… His entire display was performed along similar lines. He even managed to turn arund at the end of the runway with one wingtip a similar distance from the ground.
