Now that Qaddafi’s (Gaddafi) out of power and a new government is struggling to maintain order, what is future of that B-24 (“Lady Be Good”)?
While it is low on the list (after services and order), anyone working to secure the remains from metal thieves and souvenir hunters?

I would imagine that tourism would be a big concern for the new government once other things are sorted out, lots of revenue potential there that Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt have done pretty well out of. Getting a museum together with this plane could certainly attract a few crowds.

I’m for – ‘put on display in a post Gaddafi Libya’
The former RAF El Adem is pretty much to the far eastern region of Libya, Tobruk, and the LBG it is unlikely to have been ‘taken out’ by NATO.

I agree – El Adem and the surrounding areas have a huge amount of history, so that particular aircraft should be embraced in such a exhibit.
Those old pictures of her laying in the middle of the sand remind me of the Kee Bird!

As NATO forces have no doubt subjected the major Libyan air force facilities, such as Gamal Abdul El Nasser Air Base, to attack in recent months, let’s hope that the B-24 has survived unscathed.

I would imagine that this project will sadly now be the least of their worries over the next ten years and beyond, as the civil war rages on and on and on and on…… π
Utter utter ill conceived folly once more.

Clearly it has moved from the police compound to the much more secure and nearby El Adem airbase.

This bodes well as plans were announced a year or so back about a major museum being created, anticipating opening up Libya more to tourism.
