Lake Konstanz recoveries.

According to the other forum the sonar images were of the PB4Y in lake Washington. I’ve not seen the images myself and cant find them online. The poster said he’d done some research too and found no record of a he177 crashing in lake konstanz

PB4Y images are far more recent and totally different. The story of how the He177 crashed in Constance was told in the German mag. I had a copy years ago, lent it to someone and never got it back. Anyway, its a moot point, it is staying where it is, if someone like the late Paul Allen couldn’t make any headway I doubt anyone else can.

I found some stuff on another forum, Martin Schaffner recovered 11 aircraft from the lake. However there are still 3 wrecks somewhere in the lake. A He177 isnt among them.

There were sonar images of the He177 in a Jet & Prop back in the 1980s and it has been discussed previously. Paul Allen started preliminary negotiations, but having to deal with all the countries surrounding the lake got too hard so it was shelved.

Someone needs to send an ROV down there to have a look.

If I remember rightly the Lancaster was recovered by someone called Schaeffer as well as some B-17’s and other aircraft. It was covered many years ago in Flypast. Its fate was to be scrapped such a shame.

Lucky chap: spent many a relaxed afternoon drinking lager or coffee on the lakeside at Lindau. I hadn’t really thought of sunken treasure though did see the odd dirigible overhead.

Near the old seaplane base the sunken SE-200 prototype and a Do24 are at considerable depth. There must be more.
