Sorry to post Lamens questions, but im quite new to the Aircraft/Aviation, technical scene……………can anyone post a simple explanation of the principle of an aircraft putting on full power upon touchdown, i realise its applying reverse thrust to slow the aircraft down, but im not sure of the method of how it achieves this………….once again sorry for simple questions

so putting in simply. the thrust is diverted in the opposite direction via deflector plates…….thanks for the explanation, i did thinkthe answer would be somthing along those lines, 😉

Reverse thrust
I think the Beverlies also could reverse the prop pitch to slow down, also they could reverse while parking!!

On reading your post better, you might be asking what exactly happens.
On jet aircraft, part of the rear half of the engine covers slides backwards and as it does so, it will block part of the air pumped through the engine and divert it forwards. From there on it´s old Newton……for every action there is an equal and opposide reaction. Hence the aircraft will slow down.
Turboprop aircraft will do the same but differently. The probs will go into negative pitch, blowing the air forwards.

No problem with questions like this. Everyone has to learn from somewhere;)
Reverse is mostly found on turboprop and jet aircraft. On jets there is a “reverese lever” mounted at the front of the throttles. In flight, this lever is inhibited. It only works after WOW (weight on wheels), after the aircraft senses it has landed by proximity switches on the landing gears. Once the aircraft has landed, it is a simple matter of sliding your hand forward and pulling upwards on the reverse levers which in turn will activate the reverser shells on the engines.
On turbo props, the basic princeple is the same, but in stead of reverser levers you would have to lift the throttles upwards and then move them backwards to achive reverse on the props.
