Lanc NOT showing its age!

In contrast to the recent thread discussing whether or not the BBMF Lanc is starting to show its age, I can safely say it’s not!

A quiet, pleasant Sunday afternoon was ‘interupted’ by the sound of approaching engines. The sound grew louder and so I rushed outside shortly before the Lanc flew directly over my house at very low level, in all its glory, all 4 engines making the sweetest sound. I was able to watch it as it banked gently and flew off into the distance. Consider my afternoon well and truly made! I’m in Woking in Surrey and it was flying to the South. Any idea where it was headed?

Thank you BBMF for a lovely surprise.

She flew right over my house at very low level around two o’clock, what a sight and sound!! Was in the front bedroom and knew it was her before I even looked out – there is no mistaking the sound of those 4 Merlins!!

There’s a big Black Aircraft going over.——-

“There’s a big Black Aircraft going over us, low and slow and lots of engines “
So shouts the wife to me 50 mins. ago.

Stumping down the hallway as fast as i could, ” get out of the way Dog”,
I got out back to see Lancaster PA-474 winging her way over us and past the edge of Mold, heading in direction of RAF Valley at about 1500 ft. With a couple of light Twins in high pursuit.

Marvellous, told all the neighbours, “Only one flying this side of pond” to all the chorus ‘s of “Ooh!! Whats that”.

Made my day that did.

And I’ve just been treated to a low level overflight by her, heading East-ish over Milton Park(Didcot)

On Sunday she displayed at Bradfield, then Cholsey (S of Wallingford), then N Moreton (next village) for the Vachers’ air day, and then went on to another in Gloucs.

But then she departed from the published route, and came back through the Vachers’ overhead (but they were expecting her), and then to the Goring /Streatley area where she RVd with a Mitchell. The Mitchell then tracked NE along the Chilterns (towards Duxford?).

Does anyone know what the RV with the Mitchell was about?

Just flew north and low over Ware, yep – all four running sweetly.

A bit gusty but she looked fine.

Did not look as if she was in anyway hindered by her years while she was manouvering alongside the M25 between Gates 9 and 10 this afternoon, real nice break in the boredom of Motorway tramping.:p

She made at least 4 passes over the War and Peace Show this afternoon. (Paddock Wood, Kent). I had no idea she would be there and my camera batteries ran out part way through! 🙁

Did not sound like there were any issues with the 4 Merlins at all!

Brilliant, thanks for that.

Here’s hoping that it flies back this way too!

Very spirited display at Dover’s Bleriot 100 yesterday with some steep turns around the high terrain in a testing wind – and looking immaculate. Anyone up on the Castle Keep would have got some good shots. Another display due there today so that’s what you saw.

And I’ve just been treated to a low level overflight by her, heading East-ish over Milton Park(Didcot) at what could not have been much more than 1000 feet. Another person whose afternoon has been well and truly made. Four Merlins in close formation on full song-priceless and the glory of it is I’m getting paid to enjoy myself so much. At a guess I would say she’s been playing at Dover and Eastchurch though what she was doing coming at me from the West I know not. Not that I am complaining.
