Anyone tell me what thickness the skin used on a lanc would be,and how far apart the rivets would be and there diameter,I’ve a piece of alloy skin(maybe)I’ve found on a old ww2 Lancaster base.pic to follow.

Rivets are normally spaced 3-5 times the diameter (rivet shank) dependant on material thickness and loading.

Thanks I will get the micrometer out and check the gauge, the rivets are about 10mm apart,it’s all made of alloy but surprising strong to try and straighten out,pic to follow when I get to the computer, using the phone now.

Facflaggie, different parts of the skin had different thicknesses and spacing between rivets differed.
But as an indication, the skin of the nose section, according to my Avro drawings, was 1/32″ thickness.
As a yardstick for rivet spacing, many were about 1″ apart.
Of course, formers and other components had many different gauges.
Hope that helps.
