Hi All
I am considering collecting some of the items a Bomb aimer would have needed inside the Lancaster.
I am basing my questions on the Sperry MK XIV bombsight.
What type of instruments did he use and did the equipment vary from in different marks of the Lancaster and did they also differ if it was a British or Canadian built Aircraft.
Are there also drawings available for the mounting panels of these items.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Andy
Thanks for the AP numbers,Will check them out.
Your project sounds interesting and maybe something I may do at a later date.
I have a few parts already,But will wait until I have the correct info before going any further.
Thank you John.

I can suggest contacting ‘Air Ministry’ on the Forum, he has produced a book on aircraft electrical armament installations which has been invaluable in sourcing equipment for our Stirling.

Hi Garry,
I am also trying to gather information on the equipment at the Lancaster bomb-aimers position. I posted a question here a couple of weeks ago asking if anyone could point me in the direction of any documentation on the three main units on the bomb-release panel, but no replies yet. Ultimately I want to build a working panel, so need to understand the functioning of the units on the panel, and the circuit they are part of. I think I have a lead to the documentation, but that is work in progress.
I agree that every picture of the panel, and any surrounding gubbins, is different in detail! I conclude that the installation was rapidly evolving as the war progressed.
I can also recommend ‘The Lancaster Explored’ for a good collection of pictures. Worth looking at for the circuit details is AP2062A for the Lancaster 1 and 3, AP2062B for the Lancaster 2, and AP2062F for the Canadian Lancaster 10. These are all available in electronic form on the internet. AP2062A/C was also reprinted in book form as ‘The Lancaster Manual’.

Hello Ian
Thats a very nice panel you have there,I have seen three different types of this panel and not sure which is correct for the T1 sight.
I will purchase a copy Lancaster dvd,As that may be the best option for me.
Thank you for your reply.

Hello Garry, I’m not sure about the bomb sight accessories but I had a go at a bomb aimer’s panel a while back, based on a drawing posted on the forum a long time before that! Looking at interior shots they are all different. The ‘Lancaster explored’ dvd has the best collection of reference photos anywhere.
