Does anyone know wether or not the Demand oxygen system as fitted to canadian lancasters is a wartime item? Was this used along with the regular system that used oxygen economisers??
Any info will be of great help.
Cheers Lads.

RE: Lancaster bomber dilemma…..
Thanks Laurie.
It points me in the right direction as I believe that the economisers are the way to go. I think that the demand system must have been a postwar modification.

RE: Lancaster bomber dilemma…..
I have just dug out my copy of the RAF Museum publication “The Lancaster Manual”. This is a facsimile copy of AP 2062A & C Volume I for Lancaster Mks I and III aircraft during the period 1942 to 1945.
It covers the systems fitted to the aeroplane in detail and mentions the oxygen system in several sections. All these sections refer only to a system fitted with econimisers. There is no mention of a demand system at all.
Hope that helps a little.
Laurie.

RE: Lancaster bomber dilemma…..
Maybe I better explain what a demand oxygen system is. This is the same oxygen system that is fitted into the B17 bomber and the p51 mustang. The raf lancasters had a different type fitted, they used oxygen economisers that were fed from large tanks in the centre section of the fuselage. My question is wether or not this system like in the B17 was a wartime system on Lancasters?
…ANYBODY???
