Evening all.
Here’s a couple of clips i shot of PA474 a couple of months ago that i thought you might like to see. Start up and a rather low flypast. I know you’ve all seen her a thousand times, but i for one never grow tired of the old girl!
I do have one question though, on the start up clip what are the groundcrew doing in the main U/C bays? Are they priming the fuel pumps or something?
Apologies for the shot of my foot and the taxiway at the end also, “expert cameraman” is not a phrase used in the same sentence as my name!

Can you imagine what the present elf an safety inspectors would have said then when you think that the average age of bomber crews was about 23. Sending 19 year old lads of to fly a four engine aircraft. Today you can’t even legally drive HGVs until you are 21 except in the forces.

Yes, they are indeed priming the fuel pumps. It was apparently one of the most hated jobs during WW2, for an undercart that was slippery (no tread), oily (hydraulic fluid) and wet (UK weather!!!) was a swine of a thing to climb up on, especially at dusk. No OH&S then, methinks!

Hmm, nice. Don’t care what the camera skills are like just nice to see the clips. Thanks
