Lancaster crash – 9 June 1950

Would anybody have that book on post war accidents to hand?

I am researching the Lancaster used for experimental propeller testing by Dowty-Rotol that crashed at Moreton Valance.

I particularly seek the RAF serial or civil registration if appropriate.

Thanks.

Dowty-Rotol test bed aircraft

Thanks Geoff,

I have about 16 shots of the general and close up wreckage, I think taken by a Dowty employee. The aircraft is a write off but the civilian crew survived, although some were injured. The canopy has been axed off by the crash crew to access the injured. Fire extinguishers are visible so the shots are real time. I have an accompanying press cutting.

The aircraft is in military Bomber Command livery with black undersides. The fuselage is creased and buckled, obscuring the serial on both sides which maybe begins with a ‘K’ and seems to end in a ‘0’, but all very feint

Also in with the pile are some shots of a four blade test prop on a Wellington, again with reduced visibility and unreadable serial.

I think it was the Ministry of Supply, or some such, operated a few post war bombers. There was that Lancaster followed by a Lincoln always parked at Blackbushe as you drove down to the west country. May be this aircraft was on MoS charge.

OK British Bomber sleuths what can you tell me?

Mark,

I’ve looked in the relevant Colin Cummings post-war RAF losses book & there’s no mention of it in there, so presumably it was no longer on RAF charge & that no RAF personnel lost their lives.

Geoff.
