Zelham, The Netherlands, yesterday saw the second of two public events where the general public were allowed to view the results of the excavation of 61 Sqn Lancaster ED470.
Sadly six crew lost their lives in this aircraft and the information provided by the group responsible for the dig certainly made sure that those attending fully appreciated the sacrifice made.
Below are a few of the pictures that I took and these show the remarkable state of preservation of some of the artifacts, particularly the escape hatch and the main undercarriage leg.
For me it was a very solemn occasion and I was gratified to see that firstly, the event was very well organized and very well attended, and secondly that I believe all of those present fully realized what the artifacts represented.
I hope that all the items recovered will find an appropriate home for future generations to view.

Also on show was a copy of what I assumed to be the ORB for 61 Squadron which clearly showed the identity of the aircraft as ED478 rather than ED470. I assume that this was simply a typo and that there is no doubt that ED470 was the correct serial number.
