Lancaster FM212 project update

Just a short one this time hope to give more info tomorrow. The big meeting is tonight in windsor to decide the final location of the Lancaster Bomber in Jackson Park Windsor Ontario. This is the last pedestal mounted Lancaster bomber in the world.
There are 2 locations left to choose from as all the others have been thrown out. The first location is a purpose built hangar at the windsor airport and the Lancaster would be the centre piece.
The second location would be another purpose built building except this would be located in Jackson Park.
I know where I would like to see her go!

Lancaster photos.

Peter,

Be my guest.

If you would like the images cleaned up a little and sent at a higher resolution just send me a PM with a posting address.

The Spitfire is alive and well and living in Aspen, Colorado.

Peter,

No more of the Lancaster but loads of the Spitfire. Here is a shot of Don and myself just landed back at Windsor having ‘shot up’ Jerry Billing’s Strip at nearby Essex.

Here are a couple of shots of the Windsor Lancaster that I took in June 1972.

At that time Don Plumb, a Windsor resident, had just got his Spitfire Tr.IX TE308 up and running.

Thats great news Peter, an excellent show of respect for a magnificent aircraft and respect for those who flew and gave their lives.

I know the final decision hasnt been made – heres hoping but it is about time that the bean counters in the local planning offices actually listen to the people, if only some councils over here would do the same instead of letting prize airframes suffer badly with irish woodworm, i.e. the Blackpool Vulcan

Her new home

Once
approval is given by City council, fundraising will start to build a new 100ft by 200 ft hangar to house the Lancasterat the airport. The lancaster will not stay on the pedestal until the building is up as it will be dismantled and moved to the airport where she will be under 24hr security until the building is built.

Lancaster Commitee meeting results

The sub committe meeting to decide where the Lancaster in Windsor should be relocated to resulted in a majority vote in favor of relocating the Lancaster to the Windsor Airport into a new purpose built Hangar.
The next step is to have this approved by the Lancaster bomber Commitee and then onto council for final approval.

Well, both the two options you’ve outlined have her coming down from her pole and into covered accommodation. The very least she deserves. Many thanks for keeping us posted Peter. 🙂

Just as long as she’s indoors, we’ll all be happy I’m sure.
A great big pole is no place for a Lancaster to spend her retirement.
