Lancaster Lower Starboard Wing Tip

Shortly before attending the Old Sarum aeroboot I picked up a few parts including what was described as a Lancaster rudder fin.

I have spent a few days cleaning and straightening it out – to discover that it is the trailing edge of the starboard wing tip ca. 2m long as shown in the section of drawing attached..

Many parts have the R3 inspectors stamps and the part numbers. There was one interesting difference,

According to the drawing the stringers are numbered for top and bottom and for port and starboard.

So as this is the starboard the stringers should be 51 for upper and 64 for lower. The port would be marked 20 and 6 respectively.

in amongst the 64 stringers there is a stringer marked with 6 – so incorrect part but same shape and function.

The numbering system is also a bit bizarre from the tip the stringers are identified as C B D A.

Not bad condition after spending 70 years at the bottom of a dutch lake.
