Lancaster Nose Ladder? Ladder, any ideas?

We’ve recently had a ladder donated to us under the suggestion that it is a Lancaster nose ladder.
Under closer inspection we cant see how it can be.
It measures about 7 feet at its smallest and 14 feet when extended. It is approx 14 inches wide.
There are two lugs on the top end and two spiked feet on the bottom presumably for grass.

Neither the lugs nor the width match anything in the Lancs nose.

Any ideas as to what it is off? Stirling perhaps?

Hi Andy – believe it could well be from a Lincoln.

This image appears in an article in the current edition (June ’09) of Flypast. on P.72 (c. ‘The Collection’) and clearly shows a similar ladder to the one you’ve been donated underneath the nose section of a Lincoln in South Australia (circa May 1955).

I trust I haven’t unwittingly broken any Forum rule by reproducing this image on Flypast’s own site.

Hope it helps.

Richard

Its obviously been produced with a use in mind or else they wouldnt have put the lugs on the top, and its as standard, no post production modification (except for the lashings of white paint).

I cant say we are sure it is RAF. It looks as though it could be but we have not found any markings on it yet. The tubing is similar in diameter to that of the crew door entrance ladder.

Offhand, I can’t think of many RAF aircraft that had entry via the nose. Wellington/Warwick?

Best wishes
