As the BBMF Lancaster PA474 is now snugly inside her new home for what looks to be at least 9 months I thought it maybe a good idea she has her own thread and updates could be posted here and not get mixed in the normal DX one.
I know Alan is fuming but I think I did post I would be surprised that DX would want hundreds if not thousands descending for the arrival on Monday 10th, staffing etc and the possibility of MET interfering and causing knock ons.
May I be the first to wish ARCO a happy 1st Lancaster (I think)
A Happy TA

Must admit, I let my LLA membership lapse years ago when the BBMF started their own club and I joined that instead. The BBMF Club mags are pretty good, but I miss the stand-alone yearbook that used to be produced and think £25 is quite a lot for what you get.

Excellent article in ‘Memorial Flight’ by Col Pope on the trials and tribulations of the painting of the Lanc.

So why are they put back on, authenticity ?
By: Bluebird Mike - 16th August 2017 at 08:01
No, they weren’t fitted when she left Duxford, though they have been on since. I think they look brilliant, but BBMF aren’t so keen due to them making exhaust stub inspection more difficult. Shame- they really add to her ‘wartime’ look.

When the Lancaster left Duxford, did it have it’s exhaust shrouds fitted, or was that done back at Coningsby ?

As the Lancaster certainly drew in the crowds and opened up the world of engineering to people it would be lovely to see the viewing gallery extended and maybe an internal walk round gallery to encourage youngsters for the future.

Although I have only just joined I have been following the Forum for many months and particularly this and other threads in Historic. I cannot see how anyone could possibly object to your Lanc thread. Thank you.

PA474 has been such a popular ‘visitor’ at Duxford that Building 420 is more often referred to as the Lancaster Hangar than the Stephenson Hangar.

Brian, I did ask politely and I did not link to others photographs obviously you did not manage to grasp the reason I started this post or was it something you wished you had thought of?
many threads have been started outside of the DX thread and many inside the DX thread have gone way off topic its the way it is.
It may not of sunk in but I will explain again why I started this thread .
Lancaster PA474 is a very popular aeroplane and deserved its own thread on this overhaul and the next part coming up so that many years after we are all dust someone may wish to gain knowledge of what went on last winter and here it is complete with idiots who cant see that fact.
Your camera and do what you wish with it as I would hate you to walk off in a huff with your ball so the rest of us kids here miss out on you excellent coverage you nad many others do in the DX Diary. I am one of many for whom that trip is somewhat a non regular event and if I could take great photos I would but im crap at it.
So whats the next thing in The Stephenson hangar, any ideas?

^^^^^ Errr i do thank you very much ,i didn’t realise it was compulsory to read or only post Duxford stuff in the Duxford thread .Trolly Aux ,carry on posting ,it’s a free forum not a dictatorship.
By: Pen Pusher - 22nd July 2017 at 15:21
Feel free to post anything about Duxford or anywhere in your own threads
And if you want photographs, then get your own camera out and make the effort to visit Duxford yourselves instead of freeloading of those of us who do and then whinge and moan when we don’t post in those threads.

^^^^^^ Too right ,we don’t all want to wade through pages of the Duxford thread “just incase ” .Feel free to post anything about Duxford or anywhere in your own threads 🙂

Thank you to all the contributors to this thread, I will take on board what some of said about starting this thread when there is the Duxford Diary, I have listened and taken no notice whatsoever and will in the future start a thread I feel deserves its own place in aviation history.
PA474 is back in the sky doing what she does best and a massive well done to all who had a finger in this pie.
Thank you again one and all.

Still in circuit at Coningsby, right now, viewed from my bedroom window.

Yeah, little video on the BBMF Facebook of her arriving over home.
