Does anyone have any photos of PA474’s wings and centre section during the spar boom replacement?

How different is the Lincoln centresection……. guessing outer wings a whole different kettle of fish.

Short term we are looking at using the jigs for re-riveting our top wing skins to replace the mag rivets. Long term we’re not ruling out a spar change but are continuing to survey as much of the spar as we can.

The centre section and outer wing jigs are on loan at East Kirkby from BBMF. We will use them again in 10 or 11 yrs time when the front spars are due replacement.

I believe Bae had no further intention to complete this work again in the future and that is why they sadly never kept either the centre section or outer wing jigs. The fatigue Index (FI) consumed is a concern whereas PA474’s FI was reasonably closely calculated. Awaiting nx611_1945 to reply to see if I can help.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to suggest anything untoward, and I’ve not missed the point.
You just said you had some of the remaining drawings, not what they were or where they were from. Last I spoke to BAE – about the Shackleton re-spar works – they said they’d not got anything remaining from the Lancaster re-spar themseleves, it had all gone. Even the centre section jig had been scrapped. It might be worth you talking to the Avro Heritage guys as I bet they’d love to see anything you have.

You are missing my point, I have some copies of the project drawings. I have photos of the project which was carried out in conjunction with Bae Chadderton. Bae own the Lancaster design rights-still.

Hi, I was the Team leader on this project and have photos and some of the remaining drawings from the project if that helps? You will need to give me some more specific information in order that I can help more. A large subject! 🙂
Interesting – I thought all the remaining drawings had gone back to BAE, as a lot was supplied from the Shackleton archive drawings; what with Shackleton material being used and the similarities in the wing.
