lancaster plans

Hi all, I’m new to this (never posted to a forum before, although I’ve spent the last couple of days going through this one) and was just wandering if anyone has detailed lancaster plans I could use for a 3d model I’m making. I wish to model the lanc inside and out. The more accurate the plans the more accurate I can make the model. Ideally I would like it to use the lancaster fans out there (lancman) as my critics to encourage me to do justice to this great plane

I have a book called the lancaster manual which I used many years ago to produce a cutaway drawing of the Lanc, it has loads of useful stuff, structure and systems etc.
I can’t remember where I got it but I think it was Midland books, somebody here may be able to point you to a copy.

The Lancaster Manual, Volume 5 of the RAF Museum series, published by Arms and Armour Press. ISBN: 0 85368 311 5. Based on AP2062A & C, Vol 1. Lots of excellent data and diagrams.

Might still be available from the RAFM. Worth calling the shop or contacting them through the website.

The CD is also excellent. Bought a copy when I was back in the UK a couple of months ago.

In addition,

There is a guy on e-bay (name escapes me at the moment, but a quick search should remedy that) who offers all kinds of drawings of Lancs, Messerschmitts and Focke Wulfs and more. He is based in Oz or New Zealand so right up your alley.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I think you’ll find in Flyapst magazine an advert for a CD that will give you evrything you need to know about the Lanc, from outside to inside ….and probably upside down as well. In the latest edition, in the classified pages there is quarter page advert on the left hand page, apropriately called The Lancaster…..might be worth checking out.

Now if they also did one on the B17 as well…..

I believe the Spitfire will be the next offering on CD.

You can find them om www.flyingzonedirect.com

re plans

NC900, thanks, I’ve already found that site and thats exactly the sort of thing I’m after. What I really need are interior plans, fusalage frames, instrument panels etc so I can get the detail in the model that will bring it to life. I know there are plenty of pics out there but without something to give me an idea of size its all guesswork ie what thickness are the frames and stringers,or even what size rivets do they use on the fusalage and how far apart are they spaced?? The closest lancaster to me is in Auckland (MTOT) at the other end of the country so I have been working blind as it were. I’ll never get a chance to fly in a real lanc but I do intend to build the most accurate 3d model of one.

Well, I can’t offer plans, but I can offer encouragement! Good luck!
