Lancaster Rose Rice rear turret info

I have been commissioned to produce a painting of a 101 Squadron ABC Lancaster with a rolls Royce rear turret and as the painting is for the rear gunners brother I would like to be as accurate as possible.
I have ‘googled’ and searched here but not much is coming up so I’m asking you knowledgeable chaps if you can point me in the right direction or recommend any books I could look at for info.

Thanks in advance

Yes its not too much trouble, I’ve changed a few small things since I posted the last version, I have replaced the Rose turret (turns out it probably didn’t have one) with a FN turret and made the prop tips a little less prominent, I’ll post it when I have a photo so you can see what I mean

This is exactly the reason I post these things here, I would not have known that so at least I can now find out what they should be like and correct them.
Thanks for the info

🙂 Quick question,is it easy to correct something once you have got as far down the road as you have.:)

Hi Paul C,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have got the wrong tail fins on your Lancaster painting. You have painted the very very late Lancaster fins with the clipped bottom edge whereas it should be the curved edge.

Well now I’ve almost finished a doubt as to whether or not this particular Lancaster had a Rose Rice Turret has come to light, so would any of you knowledgeable chaps be able to tell me one way or another or at least point me in the right direction were I might find out. The aircraft in question is ME619 SR-U of 101 squadron.
Many thanks in advance

Is this also a Rose turret? I note twin 50’s but different multi-part glazing. D

It’s a FN82 turret.

Hi,
This might help, its a rose-rice turret as fitted to 101 sqn lancs. And yes NX611’s is a FN.82, still has 0.5 brownings though.

🙂 I would think Elvington should be able to help, they have a wonderful rear gunner section and also some of the helpers there were actually rear gunners .
