Lancaster Turret Ring part

Back in 2015 I picked up a few pieces of Lancaster and this heavy L shaped casting was part of them.

I have been under occupied of late so have been cleaning up old pieces and came back to it – it is made from aluminium and given the deformed curved shape and bolts I cannot see where it goes in the airframe.

So I wondered if this was a piece of turret ring ?

I managed to undo all the steel bolts ( judicious use of Kroil) and the aluminium casting is 20 inches long and just over 2 inches high with a 1 inch return. There are staggered bolts on the wider section and a serrated pattern with some rivet heads on the thinner outer edge.

Any suggestions ?

Looking through the Lancaster parts and construction manuals It could be any number of spar sections from the wing or undercarriage – bent in an interesting way in the crash.

Unfortunate not long enough to have any numbers on it.

Thank you.

Thank you Peter. I did some calculations and the chord meant it was a 4 ft diameter so I ruled out turrets,

It is the inward curve that is confusing. I will look at wings.

Much appreciated.
