Does anyone know of any other photographs of the Nose Art on Lancaster PD198 – Willing Winnie from 9 squadron?
This was the aircraft that had a scrap with FW190’s over Bergen in 45.
The only photograph I can find is a little indistinct:

Thanks for your attention.

Interesting pictures. What is the story on this? Not scrapping but looks like it was under heavy repair reassembly??

Very nice thank you for the information! Do you have any other pics from the same location?

Iam glad I could help you Brain, a little info on the pics – Were taken in Derby at the carriage works were aircraft were being repaired during the war. My Dad’s Grandad was the foreman and I assume he took these photos although iam not sure wether there of the aircraft in the stages of repair or having been striped for parts and scrapped, but as you said Peter it was most likely under heavy repair. The date when these were taken isnt know either.
These pictures below were produced using same pictures i posted earlier but iam not sure who the guy was who did these photos, i assume it was from someone at http://freewebs.com/rafh/belated/belated.html.

Thanks Rob – I had heard about the FW190 fight but the link is very good!
I did not know that Harris was on a third tour. Sounds as prolific as Gibson. I had heard the aircraft had 38 missions on her tally.
I am also told that the chap in the photograph is not Harris.
Good luck with the exams and then with any dealings with an old computer…

Willing Winnie
It would be a pleasure , you must know that A FW 190 has been restored that took part in an attack on willing winnie in 1944 Harris was pilot at that point 23 years old and he had already conducted 2 tours in Bomber command astonishing really. I will get the old computer up and running asap at the moment i’m in the middle of a course with a couple of exams at the end of it , but as soon as i have time i’ll get it sorted. http://www.white1foundation.org/. Heres a link i think it relates the story , Willing Winnie was returning from an attack on U boat pens Bergen the Fw 190 was flown by Heinz Orlowski.

Rod, any Lancaster pictures are always appreciated.
Additionally, as it looks like an interesting piece of art and as it is from 9 squadron that there are a few people on this forum and elsewhere – who would really like to see any pictures that you have.
