Landing speeds question

What is a typical landing speed for a commercial airliner, ie a 747 or a 737?

1 mph = 5,280 ft an hour 1 knot = 6,076.12 ft an hour
1 mph = .8689755962687 kts an hour 1 knot = 1.15078030303 mph

100knots=115mph

A340-600: min 132kt, max (normal weights) 151kt.

An immediate return for an overweight landing from a max weight take off with full flap available would give an approach speed (nil wind) of 188kt for a 183kt touchdown.

A B767 at max landing weight has a Vref of 145kts. The 757 at MLW is 136kts. The lower end of the scale is governed by Vmcg and Vmcga. This again is a function of weight but aditionally thrust. A figure of around 110kts is normal for this for the 767/757 and also the 733.

Landing speed is a function of aircraft weight……Vref (threshold speed) is 1.3Vs, where Vs is the stall speed in that particular configuration. Stall speed increases with weight, so a 757 at ferry weight (65 tonnes) will have a Vref Flap 30 of about 108 kts…..at normal landing weight (85 tonnes), Vref 30 is 128 kts (..ish, don’t have the books to hand). The approach is actually flown at a minimum speed of Vref plus 5 kts, and in strong wind conditions, a maximum of Vref plus 20 kts.

Both between 130 kts and 160 kts on average. As DME says it really depends on load, if it’s near empty I’ve heard of 757s landing at 108kts.

I’d say a 747-400 would come in at anywhere from 120 kts to 140 kts depending on load.
