Help – I’m pretty sure it was Doug Champlin who has/had D13 yellow 10 (see artwork below).
But I just skipped across to his website
http://www.champlinfighter.com
and it says the collection went to to the Museum of Flight, Seattle in June ’04
http://www.museumofflight.org/
But there’s no Focke Wulf on the list of exhibits there.
Am I wrong re. Doug Champlin (having the D13) or has he done something else with it?
many thanks, Gnome

to get my facts right!
Sorry guys, my mistake. As I received my copy of Green Hearts only the other day ,and the pictures I posted do not appear to be The aircraft of Werner Zech, Black 8 …apologies.

If this is true, then who has a clue (or pic) of Mr. Lacey’s Dora. I’m just so curious to see how the plane looks. 😮

Just to put one thing right. AFAIK the photographs of the Dora-wreckage are not showing the restoration project of Mr Lacey.
These photographs are the same as the ones published in the quarterly of Belgium based recovery group BAHAAT and which I receive two days ago, and this was about their recent recovery of the aircraft. The remains are to be re-assembled and put on display in their museum during the summer of 2005.
Cheers

That is super Jagdtiger. Those are the first pics I see of Mr. Lacey his Dora. It will take a large amount of work to complete this one for shure.

Anyone got a few gallons of superglue? Or is it just another matter of jacking the windscreen up to wheel the new airframe beneath it. Personally I don’t care as long as the population of Dora’s is incrasing by one.

There you are jagdtiger. I know that you might have some more pics of this stunning fighter. The Dora is still the most beautifull FW fighter in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what Mr. Lacey is going to do with his machine within the next few years in the UK.

Here’s a very recent picture of the Dora sitting in the Great Gallery at the Museum of Flight. Yes, it’s on loan from Doug Champlin.

Don
I have a couple of pics of it on display at the MOF. Contact me at the address below if you want them. There is also an article on the restoration in the previous edition of ‘Classic Wings’, including a shot of it being unloaded at Seattle [ Issue 46 ].

Dave

SOLVED
Location confirmed – the aircraft is indeed at the MoF Seattle, but not in the Personal Courage Wing, rather in the main collection (whether these two locations are adjacent or apart I do not know).

Anyone who can supply photos of it in current location would be much appreciated.
There are excellent photos of it at Gosshawk Aviation here

Many thanks all, Don

I think you’re right lankhaar, although that link seems entirely devoted to the Oscar, itself also exceptionally rare. I still haven’t found current display location and/or pics.
This link is a fact sheet published by MoF listing aircraft in the Personal Courage Wing – no Dora
http://www.museumofflight.org/news/PCWAircraftandMemorabiliaFactSheet.pdf
So I’ve emailed them too (edit – curator email bounced!)
Here is a very interesting article (url below) about the extensive restoration undertaken in recent years.
I know I’ve seen those or similar images somewhere else – maybe here?

The D13 is on display in the museum in Seattle in the corner of the Great Gallery-pics were on the forum at one time. If I recall correctly, the aircraft is still Champlin’s and not the museums. For whatever reason, aircraft that ARE on display but not owned/long-term loan/etc. are not listed on the website.
The Spitfire was traded to the EAA in a loan deal for a Ki-43

Many thanks folks, so far …
I checked that website and there’s news about the Spitfire – but nothing re. the Dora. I’ve emailed EAA, they may know – but meanwhile the question stays open here ….

No it’s the ex-Champlin Spitfire on loan from MoF to EAA. The Dora was not purchased by the Museum of Flight, I believe Doug Champlin still owns it.

I believe it’s on loan to the EAA Museum in Wisconsin for a couple of years.
