Found these amongst my old negatives – A view of North Side Heathrow, before they dug a trench across the main runway, built a tunnel, then a control tower and Terminal 5! – amendment – the 2nd shot is, I think, at the ‘NEW’ central area.

Bit of luck getting G-ANBG, only took 1 roll on the Northside….became G-APLL
The DC-7C has radomes top and bottom….1 story is that it was connected with French nuclear tests, another that it was for rocket/satellite tracking
Interesting – in the meantime for no good reason, but I think you’d like it ;:D

Hi Mick, always thought that the Caravelle should have been fitted with cannons, and the way Alitalia pilots used to handle them, I think they thought they were. NBG – I have kicked myself for a long while for not getting one of her, a beautiful shot of Mcmillan by the tail, do you know what they re registered her as?, that must have been the fastest piece of paper in the ARB at the time! – what’s the white lump on the 7C?
Cheers Brian.

Please try to stay on-topic, chaps.
Cloudpainter, these are very nice postcards but this sub-forum is for posting images of civil aircraft taken by forum members. Please bear this in mind in the future.
Thanks

Disatrous crasches, which were not immediatly explicable, caused grounding of the UAT COMET I fleet.
In 1954, UAT ordered DC6 and later DC 8 to replace them.

How big was the Imperial Airways photo library? did it come from Brian stainer/….. I found a load of Imperial photos in the US Library of Congress online photo collection and edited them into a FLICKR album….Imperial Airways Palestine will probably get you there…..I enjoyed a swift look at your albums
I’ll PM you sometime in the next few days. No Brian Stainer was not involved.
Brian.

Yes, agreed, I was unsure but took a guess based on the rounded fin!. Re DC5’s the only photos I seem to remember are in Japanese markings, I know there were none in the Imperial Airways photograph library when I owned it!.
Cheers Brian.

The two Douglas aircrafts are more probably DC 6 rather than DC4 ?
Best regards, Michel
The rare Guest Aerovias is a DC-6 (original length)….the UAT Aeromaritime is a DC-6A or B (stretched fuselage, extra windows in front of wing)

I remember Brian Stainer on an Ariel Arrow….gave up taking my own pics because his were so good!
Funny enough, thats what started me on this forum to find out anything about Brian, who I knew reasonably well. As with you, I stopped bothering with LAP after a while, because Brian was so good and concentrated my efforts on the small airfields. You should still be able to see my thread re Brian on Civil Aircraft images. Also I posted some photos on there under thread FIFTIE’S ISH PHOTOS which may interest you.
Brian.
p.s. I had an Arrow as well!!:D

Michel

Hi Michel,
That painting is great, by the standard of it I presume you paint professionally, do you only paint aviation scenes (and clouds!).

Green Dragon – Yes, we all had motorbikes, thrashed all over the place to various airfields, kept getting chucked out by the police because we were not MCA staff – once being locked in the cells for a couple of hours to try and convince us. Sipson Road lot kept threatening to do us all over, but never did. One of the guys had a Vincent Rapide – they now go for over £30K. Happy Daze?
That UAT painting is a cracker!.

One of the DC 6 UAT AEROMARITIME fleet.

If it was SAS it would be a ‘Cloudmaster’ by cloudpainter :)….do you have a DC-5 painting? Preferably in pre-war British Airways Ltd markings(order cancelled)
