I thought I’d post the following trip I made a few years ago…
11/3/00 LHR-ZRH SR A321 HB-IOK
11/3/00 ZRH-FRA SR A320 HB-IJP
13/3/00 FRA-ZRH SR A330 HB-IQA (1st A330 flt)
14/3/00 ZRH-LHR SR MD11 HB-IWG (1st MD11 flt)
I had decided to go to Frankfurt on a photo trip(first one at FRA); strangely the cheapest flights from LHR were via Zurich. Even better I could stop overnight in Zurich at no extra cost. Therefore lots of photos at ZRH as well!! The flight cost only £117 and check the a/c types…at the time Swissair were operating MD11s on the first flight to LHR daily and likewise A330s to Frankfurt. The A330 had @40! passengers onboard and sector time was 45mins. At ZRH on the way back, I got upgraded to business class and was given seat 1A. Since it was to be an MD11, I thought great..could this actually be First? Sure enough, on boarding I was directed into First class. The seat was unbelievable and cabin had a 1-2-1 configuration.(only 10 seats). Only downside; 1.5hr flight went far too quickly and we seemed to reach LHR in no time at all. 🙂 🙂

Yeah but isn’t that only because on certain flight they are required to stop off at Shannon 1st?

Iberia have used the A340-600 on Madrid-Tenerife
I flew MAD/TFN (Madrid/Tenerife North) on a B747 3 years ago with IB. Fabulous it was too! Was a bit nervous flying into TFN on a B747!!

On Wednesday 09/06/04 Turkish Airlines flew a A340 for the Trip from DUS to Antalya or Istanbul.

With Lufthansa, they also operate the A300 into London Heathrow Airport a few times a day.
Also, in Japan, 747s on domestic flights are common.

In 2001 i went with DL, we got a 767-400 to MCO, and a 777 back to ATL! Its one fo their most profitable routes

KLM still run 767s AMS-LHR early in the mornings most days.
By: robbelc - 11th June 2004 at 17:59
Saw a BA 767 at AMS last week, and KLM used to operate 767’s on the LHR-AMS route as well, and operated 747’s regually on the Friday night flights in the 80’s. Plus LHR gets Turkish and Olympic A340’s regually. It makes sense to operate one wide body flight insted of 3 737’s/A320’s.

I know. I remember seeing a BA B757 LHR-MAN. Wasn’t even a busy flight about 30 or 40 people on it. Its pretty stupid using the aircraft up.

I have flown on 8 widebodies, half of which were on routes within Europe…
BA L1011 Tristar LHR-CDG-LHR in the mid 80’s, and SR A310 in 1990 ZRH-LHR-ZRH. I’ve flown East to West to East Coast in the States (US PIT-SFO and UA SFO-EWR, both in 1997), but both those flights were on 757’s, and waaaaay longer than all of the above widebody flights (especially the Tristar flights).

Ibreia will also use their 747-400s from Madrid to Tenirife

We seem to have been here before … but:
SYD – MEL, usually about 55 mins in a United 747-400. Always a light load as they have no local pax rights, the 747 accelerates like a Ferrari and rotates in just over 20 seconds from full take off power, climbing like a monkey possessed! 😮
A friend of ours is an F/O with them and just LOVES that leg!

BA regularly operates the 763 to Europe, and Lufthansa operates the AB6 for routes in Germany and FRA or HAM or MUC-LHR or CDG.
I expected a 763 for my trip LHR-BRU a year ago, but I got an old A320.

Back in March 2002 I flew HND-ITM(Tokyo/Haneda-Osaka/Itami) on a JAL B747-400D with 568seats!! Flight was full and took 50mins. Flight used like a bus service. JAL/ANA also use B777-300s on this service.

One of United’s LAX-ORD flights is a 744, this is only a 2½-3 hour flight.

FRA, MUC, ARN, LCK, BCN, MAD, NCE, ATH, MXP, FCO, PRG, LIS, IST, and DME all get BAs 767s on shorthaul routes.
BA also subs the shuttle flights with 767s, 777s, and 744s and these sometimes run into Europe too.

I flew on a BA 767 from FRA-LHR last month, only 55 minutes in the air. Also flew a 737 (yes I know it isn’t a very big plane) for 20 minutes across part of the island of Borneo. Although a 737 is quite small, 20 minutes is still a very short flight. Similar flights are operated by Fokker 50’s, and in some cases Twotters.

I flew BA567 (Sunday evening flight) MXP-LHR on a 767. Outward flight BA574 was on an A319.
