Cries into beer – again….
By the time the Drover becomes available, it wont be worth saving.

Hi Sword – welcome.
If you try typing “Lasham Drover” in the search box you can look at previous discussions about the Museum there.

The so-called Second World War Aircraft Preservation Society
Hmm, I’ve had a quick search and found their website (from the very useful UK Air Museums Website) and there appears to be only 1 aircraft of WWII vintage, namely a Percival Prentice (VR192). I cannot understand why it has that name! I do not know how old the photos are but Mother Nature’s degradation system seems to be winning. If I had the knowledge, cash and time to help them out I would but the bottom line is that all these aircraft need to be hangared and restored properly. I’ve seen recent photos of some similar aircraft posted from the Midland Air Museum and there is just no comparison, the latter are lovingly and regularly restored by experienced personnel and it shows! So much so that I am going to make the effort to visit Coventry really soon and spend a little money there. I won’t visit Lasham because the aircraft don’t appear (at least from the images I’ve seen) to be worth seeing – if I’m wrong then I’m very pleased to be proved wrong.

Its still very much a big gliding site, however ATC Lasham, who own all the maintenance facilities do work on 727s, 737s and 757s mainly, with the ocasional DC8.
DHL, Ryanair, Easyjet, Norweigan Air Shuttle, and most if not all of the UK Charterers use it regularly. 727 maintenance is largely down to private operators, although DHL send some of theirs in as well. I think there are currently 3 727s, and 2 757s in long term storage now.

Who does what at Lasham.
Out of touch with Lasham, who does what at Lasham these days? Last time I was there, I saw a Meteor, (or a Canberra).

Definitely a good pint at The Royal Oak. Is it still a free house?
Hi wysiwyg, To be honest I can’t remember as I have not been down for a bit but I used to go fairly regularly a while back and I found buying the non -aviation members of your family a nice meal in the pub meant you could look around the airfield without feeling guilty.

I have always found Lasham to be a very friendly place compared to other airfields. I can also recommend the Royal Oak pub in Lasham village for good grub and a decent pint 😀

I have done many, many flights out of there in gliders and glider tugs so it was a bit bizarre when I flew a 757 out of there a couple of years ago.
