Lasham Sun 23 Jan 2005

A quick visit to the Second World War Aircraft Preservation Society Museum at Lasham this morning. Most of the aircraft don’t fit into the category as the title of the museum but a nice bright day for some pictures.

Fantastic pictures from the Aeropark there. I work there myself and enjoy it.

MrB.175, looking at your photo of the Vulcan, I cannot help but notice that work seems to be ongoing with Buccaneer XV350, do you have any photos of her?

Here’s a photo of her. There was no specific work being carried out, the members of the Aeropark occasionally open the engine access doors, cockpit and nose cone to allow vistors a better look at her.

I looked out the window today and thought the same so I wandered over to the EMA Aeropark. My offering’s attached: –

I had a look at the full size original pictures of the ex WGAF F104 and although the left windscreen does appear to missing it is difficult to tell from the pictures.

Sorry cant help further.

Its not just me, then! It looks extremely clear if it is still there, and if you compare that with the fogging(?) of the Hunters canopy over the last 10 months it just doesn’t seem possible.

From the sublime to the ridiculous – the East Midlands collection is always worth a visit – well looked after aircraft, albeit kept outdoors. The sad thing about the Lashma collection, is that it is actually a collection of nice aircraft – the Meteors, Hunter, Starfighter, Sea Hawk – all desirable airframes. In the right hands, they could be a showcase.

Just give me that Drover – please……

I went there last March – for comparison see http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22295.
Has part of the windscreen of the F104 been broken, or is it just that there are no reflections in it?

Im afraid that the Lasham collection has been in that state for around the last 20 years. the F104 was last to arrive in the early 90’s. The Sea Prince is the last short nose example left I think? They started to paint it in the blue admirals barge colors about 10 years ago and got no further. Sadly I feel this collection will just slowly rot away.
Nice pics from EMA I was there myself today and was going to post some photos. Did Aeroventure at Doncaster and Sandtoft too, will post loads of photos when I get back from a week in the frozen north 😉 on Friday.

Nice shots from East Midlands Mr B.175 – I know the Vanguard/Merchantman nose is from G-APES, but what is the identity of the Viscount nose?

Lasham is in Hampshire near Alton/Basingstoke. It used to be a Dan Air maintenance base but is now home to ATC Lasham who still carry out maintenance on B727/B737 etc but mostly executive aircraft. It is also home to the Lasham Gliding Club.

Thanks for that.
At least the weather was better this morning than when I went over Christmas.
