last (?) caravelle crashed 28/08/04

The website of the UN Congo mission has given out a press release stating that a plane flying for them has crashed. The plane is a SE210 caravelle from a Congolese airline. To the best of my knowledge this is (was) the last flying Caravelle. The plane burned out.

Tragic indeed, but according to Airlinerlist.com there are (were) three airframes active on 11 August, now of course reduced to two… Waltair is apparently the operator of the two remaining ones.

I agree, IMO the Caravelle was one of the great airliner design classics, they looked great from any angle and were a delight to fly in.
