Last flight of the C-133 Cargomaster?

It has been reported that the last flight of a C-133 would take place last Labor Day, if they could find the money for the gas! Anybody know if this took place?

N199AB to Travis

As the author of Remembering an Unsung Giant, I have been in close contact with Terry Juran, at the Travis Air Museum. The current plan is for the airplane to arrive at Travis, from McCHord AFB, WA, at 1030, do some display passes and then land and shut down. I retain faint hopes of being aboard, to add a few more C-133 hours to my military log book.

$67,500 is needed to pay for the fuel and all but about $13,000 is in hand. Anyone caring to contribute can send their money to Project C-133, Travis Air Museum, 400 Brennan Circle, Travis AFB, CA 94535, USA. All funds received will be put in a dedicated account for use only with the C-133.

The Museum has contacts with some appropriate agancies to have video and other documentation of the event. One such contact, if developed appropriately, will bring in some excellent air-to-air photos.

An article I wrote for Pacific Flyer (an aviation newspaper in the western US) is now posted on a German and a Dutch web site.

On my web site, The C-133 Project, there is an informational brochure on the Gallery page that will be used on 30 Aug and thereafter with the airplane as a display.

Another update from the website !

Quote …

July 2, 2008

Update today from Terry Juran:

The latest from John Burnett, as of 10 July. We are getting really close! The Airplane will make only one stop and that will be at McChord. This stop is so that the timing is correct for the opening of the Air Show. The C-133 is due to arrive on Saturday August 30, 2008 at 10:30 am. It is scheduled to make several passes and then land and Taxi to a special roped off area. We are working hard on having a reserved area for former members of the 84th. Now for the financial details that you are all waiting to hear. WE NEED $ 67,000.00 WE HAVE $ 53,800.00 (as of 10:30 this morning) WE NEED $ 13,200.00 So please help us bring 61999 home. We are so close !

Keith.

Glad to hear she’s going to a museum.

AMC bases seems to take their history seriously….with first rate collections at Dover (receiving airframes surplus to the SAC museum when it moved),
McChord…sponsoring the last C-124 Globemaster flight from a Detroit avaition trade school to the Seattle area, and now this.

Good luck.

Newforest, Post on “propliers” tells us that so far $37.000 has been raised of the $50.000 needed for fuel etc.
If the remainder can be raised by 1 August, N199AB will fly Anchorage to Travis AFB on 1 September ! Keith.
