I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but no-one seems to have bitten especially hard. Today is the 110th birthday of Henry Allingham, last survivor of Jutland, ex Royal Naval Air Service and the last surviving member of the RAF who was there on April 1st 1918 when it came into being.
We should mark the occasion – he is the last of his kind and by all accounts a great man.

Just thought I’d drop these in from the Great War Forum (for those of us who don’t lurk on both!). Great to see the Sea Hawk!

Henry Allingham
The local BBC down here ran an interview with him recently, and he put his longevity down to a number of things including booze and “wild women”. A real character!
Apparently the RAF are honouring him with a two-Tornado flypast over Eastbourne where he is celebrating with a birthday lunch today, a well deserved tribute.
Many happy returns Sir.
