last luftwaffe crash in uk

the aircraft was a junkers 88 and it crashed approx three miles from elvington which had 2 french halifax squadrons on strength tunisse and guyanie i believe, apparently some of the french aircrews witnessed the junkers demise and promptly took a jeep from the motor pool and drove to the crash site,: the german crew were still alive in the wreckage so the french airmen pulled them out and killed them ,the incident was covered up by the RAF i learned of this incident whilst researching york based halifax squadrons having spoken to a few people who lived in the area at the time, has anyone else heard of this incident:cool: 😎

This incident is recorded in several books, “Warplanes Return”, “Air Facts & Feats” and “Return from Hell”, Page 207 records that the a/c hit a tree & crashed into a farmhouse killing two women. Crew names I have are Ofw. Boker +, Fw. Schmitz +, Hptm. Dreher & Fw. Bechtern.

A second Ju88G-6 was lost on this day on the perimeter of Metfield drome, Suffolk. An American Staff Sgt was killed by MG fire in the tower.
Obfw. Zimmermann, Obfw. Vey, Uffz. Pitan & Uffz.Wende were all killed.
