Binbrook 01
That might be WH739 with, as far as I know, 2475 (ATC) Sqn, at Ammanford in Carmarthenshire. See here.
Also, the T.17 at East Midlands (WH740) was one of the 15 Canberras loaned to NZ. Was converted to T.17 on return of course.

Hello All,
David,
Which Canberra nose you are referring to??

It’s a great shame that WH734 was exported as she was Britain’s first jet air tanker with Flight Refuelling and had an interesting life at Llanbedr. There is Canberra B.2 nose extant in the U.K which saw service with the RNZAF in Malaya and would have been a far better choice.

Little over a year ago I wrote this . . .
. . . but I reckon their cockpits will turn up eventually, especially 734’s. 😉
Well, just had an e-mail to say that the cockpit section of Canberra WH734 has been exported to New Zealand. It is still in the port there (clearing Customs). It is going to the Ashburton Aviation Museum as an example of and tribute to the RNZAF’s Canberra squadrons. Maybe an NZ forum member can get photos.

From kodak . . .
How much different are the 101s from the 206s? Didnt think the 2 were compatible??
They’re not, but the blokes in Norfolk also need donks for their TR.4s.
Only WH734 can be considered “special” in any way. This one was converted early in its life as a tanker/receiver (1955) and remained in this fit until 1976. WK128 was a “cooking” B.2 Canberra, did its job and that was it.
As Damien said, there is no economic sense in preserving them a flyers, but I reckon their cockpits will turn up eventually, especially 734’s. 😉

Or can we have a two seater in the early 70’s training scheme of grey with dayglow stripes on the nose?
Hunters rule!
That green/white one you are referring to is presumably the unique T12 originally kitted out with TSR2 avionics and then went on to be the first FBW test bed. As a 2 seater that definitely would NOT be a good scheme for XE601! The current ripple scheme would be fine thanks!
Having said that, there are several 2 seaters that would look very good in the old schemes, my favouirite would have to be ’70s era red/white.

If they are confined to the dump at Llanbedr (same thing:p !) then yet again 2 unique machines are lost. Couldnt they have been flown somewhere for preservation and then robbed!?

Don’t tell me MOD plc put its hand in its pocket! Cos that’s the only way Mr civie defence agency thingy would let them have any thing off them.

LesB I think you’ll find a certain bunch of blokes from near Kings Lynn have already taken most of the bits …they aint flying nowhere!!!
By: Ant.H - 27th February 2004 at 23:36
I’d heard some time ago that XE601 was time-expired,so if true she’d need a complete strip down and rebuild before she could fly again.Personally I’d prefer to see her stay on display at Boscombe.

The Canberras won’t fly again. A certain team of blokes near Huntingdon want the engines for another team of blokes near Kings Lynn.

Damien – it is sad indeed to see the possibility of her leaving Boscombe. She was very well looked after with the museum and I
really don’t see the need for her to be sold. As for the Canberra’s – it would be great if either were to fly again but realistically they will be spares recovered and chopped with the noses saved.

Where do you find the details of this sale? I’ve checked the DSA website but no info there!
By: JetBlast - 27th February 2004 at 13:08
I have heard a couple of rumours about XE601 over the last couple of months, so don’t rule out the possibility of her taking to the skies again.

Hi
It would be nice to get one of the Canberra’s what would the CAA say about them flying.
I know some are flying but these two have been modified and also what’s the life left on the airframes etc.
Any idea as to a price ?
By: RobAnt - 26th February 2004 at 23:19
Yep, they would do nicely – but are there plenty of spares for these too?
The new servicing regime to be applied to Avons in order to extend their life should enable them to stay in the air for quite some time. I understand Miss Demeanor is already, or will soon, benefit from this.
