Latest music you …euh… obtained

As the film thread: short reviews from your recent downloads/purchases/gifts… anyway, whatever you fancied adding to your collection.

For me, recent purchases (yep, i still buy CD’s so i can scratch them and they’ll end up useless anyway… with LP records i at least learned to be careful, not with those shiny discs).

– Gogol Bordello, Gypsy Punks
Yeah! Violins at pogo-speed. What the Dropkick Murphys do to Irish folk, GB does to Eastern European folk (klezmer, Russian stuff, gypsy stuff). Violins and violence. And DO see ’em live. Brilliant.
– Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris.
Decent rock with a bit of nastiness. Not really hard, just a tiny bit unpleasant to listen to. Which makes them stand out from a lot of other bands i don’t buy, actually.
– Maximö Park, Our Earthly Pleasures.
A bit slick perhaps, and in a cynical mood i’d say the sound like Spandau Ballet without prozac (but that’s just mean), but pleasant to my ears. It can’t be kick-my-teeth-out music all the time, after all.

I saw a duet between Michael Buble and Rod Stewart the other night on Parkinson..well talk about chalk and cheese..how in hell the smooth Mr Buble could even contemplate singing with that pathetic gravel voiced excuse for a singer is beyond me..Mr Stewart should stick to chasing young girls and massacring pop songs and the leave the real stuff to the professionals

Pete, you’re old enough and smart enough to know it’s a wind up..we are both near enough to the same age so I’d suggest our musical tastes are pretty similar .. i like all types of music and and would surely love to shoot the breeze with you over a pint or ten where we could both discuss music and salivate over Miss Kylie

I know that, you silly sod, I just think you are worth a good argument without the groin clutching retorts that you get from some other ‘intellectuals’ on here.
As for Norms attitude to Kylie, I’ve always wondered about that blokette.
She’s the only woman, not music wise mind you, that appeals to my 13 year old stepson, 22 year university son and ancient me, even my missus recognises her obvious talents.
C’mon Paul, get in there.
As for music bought at Xmas, this household received cd’s by Seasick Steve, Keith Urban, Amy Macdonald, Dixie Chicks, Snow Patrol, quite a mix.

If Kylie’s going to be there, can I come along and drink and drool too?

Steve, are you related to or have a dodgy personal relationship with the almighty Mr Bubble, as for those sad clips of Dion, obviously made when the almighty Beatles were destroying the world of sad rubbish like that, get a grip man, or do you just like winding us all up, and never tell a musician he has bad taste in music, whoever it is, I’d love to go out for a pint of Australian p### with you, it could be an interesting experience.
Have to agree with you over those useless gits Babyshambles, how to be a celebrity junky and promote your band eh, bet you’ve never heard any of their music though.
