A stroll round Air & Ground’s compound today revealed the 6 Hercules have gone, all cut up. Only the cockpit of one of the green ones remains, and some of the wings which were being cut up as I watched. There are two Navy Lynx, XZ721 and XZ727, the latter with a sign on the windscreen saying ‘Aircraft awaiting road move’. There are also a couple of Lynx cockpits, two Nimrod engines and four Pegasus engines, as well as the Phantom of course.
The concrete runway is also being taken up and looks like it is to be used in the foundations of a new building.
