Latest news on my training!

I had my review board meeting with my Chief Ground Instructor and Course Instructor at OAT this afternoon. As many of you know I’ve been contemplating moving across from the Airline Preparation Program to a near identical modular course at OAT. This has all come about due to personal circumstances.

Anyway, after a month of deep thought I handed in my withdrawl from the APP course this afternoon and have moved across to the Modular course. OAT obviously were very desperate to keep my extra £20k for the APP saying that I wouldn’t get a job if I go modular, but I think we have several fantastic pilots on this forum who have proved that theory to be wrong, in fact once I had formally withdrawn it was actual admitted that there is very little difference and that my employment options remain the same with possible exception of BA, which I see as no major loss.

My training is now taking a different course, but one I much prefer. I start flying next week training for my CPL which I will take in March. I’ve got to burn 100 hours of flying time in anyway I wish over the next few months which I’m very much looking forward to! Maybe visiting an airport near you soon!

Alongside this initial flying I’m continuing in my ground studies which should be completed by March. I then go out to Phoenix for a month in March to take my CPL skills test and start my multi engine rating. I then return to Oxford in April to resume my instrument rating training which I should finish by July at which point I will take an MCC course before starting to look for a job in August.

A much quicker, more suitable and £20k cheaper path to my license!

Now…anyone want to offer me a job!!! 🙂

Now there’s a job I wouldn’t mind! Thanks NCLRULES!

I can’t say too much because nothing is set in stone and I don’t want to tempt fate, but I hopefully have a job lined up for when I finish in August. I can’t say who for or flying what or from where quite yet, but I’ll keep you all updated.

Thanks guys! Glad to hear both of your commetns Wysi and Skycruiser. During the meeting yesterday the CGI was insisting that if I left the APP BA would never look at me, however having just looked at the BA Citiexpress recruitment page they don’t seem to give a flying monkeys!!

As you say Ian, this gives me a chance to really enjoy my flying. The intense, and dare I say it somewhat military way in the which groundschool is conducted on the APP did not suit me or the way I work. It was a very intensive slog as opposed to a course in which I could excel and try and digest everything I was leanring. I think that by flying and doing the theory alongside I’m going to be in a much better position to really blitz the exams.

Furthermore, I don’t even want to go to BA! I want prospects damn it 😀

I don’t think you’ve affected your chances at all! Friends in BA say there won’t be recruitment other than DEP with plenty of commercial experience for years to come. This is borne out by the fact that several of my mates have just got into BA (poor sods!) without ever having been near the major training schools.

I have shown the OATS APP advertisement in Flight to several people at work and they all agree that it implies things that they cannot provide. Mis-selling perhaps? I hope you are now much more free to actually get to enjoy your flying.

Well done mate, I always thought that these AIRLINE courses were a load of Bo22ocks and nothing more than a sales pitch to get more money out of already hard up students.

Good luck with the rest of your training and if you need any help or advice just drop a line.
