“The British Military plans to wipe out an enemy which has plagued soldiers for decades – blisters.
The military has bought a £50,000 ‘foot simulator’ which they want to use to develop a high-tech sock to stop their soldiers getting the painful complaint.
Ministry of Defence scientists will use the simulator – which produces the same effect as sweaty feet – in a series of trials due to start in the spring.
It is hoped the tests will lead to producing a material which reduces the combination of sweat and friction, which causes blisters. This could make a real difference to soldiers who spend a lot of time on their feet.
Many of the designs being tested -including a double-layered sock – work on the premise of drawing sweat away from the foot and into the material.
The trials could lead to the military changing the type of socks it issues with standard uniforms, a spokesman said.”
Is’nt it amazing the things they spend there money on? If they were gonna do this type of thing why could they have not done it years ago during the cold war when the budget was bigger and so that the paras and marines in the Falklands had these future ‘wonder socks’ for all that yomping they did?
We can’t afford to put a cannon in our new Air Superiority Fighter but we can afford new super-socks for the infantry.
I love the way the bean-counters in the MOD think. 🙂
