Laws you would like to see introduced?

There’s loads and loads of aggrivating things that happen in the world these days which are legal and have no limits to them.

What would you most like to see banned, limited, made illegal etc in your country that hasn’t been done already?

I think smoking in public places should be banned. No offence to any smokers of course. I get the train several times a week and have to breathe in smoke wherever I am sitting. Although smoking is not permitted as the stickers indicate, something needs to be done.

Also, the use of mobile telephones whilst driving. Such a distracting device and whether you use hands free or not, it’s still putting other people’s lives at risk.

In just about all cases, the driver does not use the radio. He/she will have another officer in the car who will do all the communication, allowing the car to be driven relatively safely.

Another thing(!) – I do not think high speed police chases are necessary. This is dangerous and puts the lives of other road-users at risk.

T5.

How about Police Officers using their radios? How much of a distraction is that? Especially when they are in pursuit of another vehicle.

RE: Laws you would like to see introduced?

I know. But clearly my idea of a distraction whilst driving has been blown way out of proportion. A law is currently trying to be passed on mobile phones being used by drivers and police do pull drivers over (as my sister has done on several occasions) and issued a warning. I do not think that passengers or car stereos relate to this at all.

“That’s the way it is – but one day, passengers might not be allowed to travel in cars.”

Don’t think that is going to happen, especially as people are being encouraged to car share which I would imagine will increase dramatically anyway when congestion charging is introduced.

As for my laws…

Mandatory 15 year sentences for drug dealers with NO possibility of early release.

Burglars to be jailed for their first offence with sentences rising exponentially to the point where if they are jailed three times they stay there for 20 years.

Reintroduction of the death penalty for the most serious crimes where there is proof positive of guilt.

Compulsory retirement of Judges at age 65.

Reintroduction of National Service for a period of say 18 months to try and equip young people with a trade.

Compulsory voting. Everyone eligible to vote should. If the choices are not acceptable they should then spoil the ballot paper. Too many people moan that nothing is being done to put the Country right and to solve it’s problems who then turn round and say they can’t be bothered to vote. Too many people have died ensuring we have the right to vote not to use it.

I’m sure I could think of a few more if I put my mind to it.

GarryB,

I’m merely stating the way the law is in the UK – the police can pull you over if you are using a mobile phone, but not for carrying passengers or using car stereos which I feel is a ludicrous remark to make anyway. That’s the way it is – but one day, passengers might not be allowed to travel in cars.

I completely agree with banning smoking in public places, its absolutely awful, I ban it altogether if I had the chance.

Rather than any new laws I’d just like to see much harsher punishment for those that break existing ones. All prisons should be Alcatraz style and we should bring the death penalty back and make it compulsory for all murderers and rapists.

“The police don’t pull you over for carrying passengers or listening to the radio – they do if you’re on a phone.”

But shouldn’t the rules be changed so that police should pull over those with passengers and have spot checks for radios?

After all someone sitting next to you talking or in the worst case a heated argument hitting you or taking control of the wheel has to be worse than talking to someone on a mobile phone.

No.

The police don’t pull you over for carrying passengers or listening to the radio – they do if you’re on a phone.

Sounds like you don’t need new rules, just the existing rules enforced.

“Also, the use of mobile telephones whilst driving.”

Equally should car stereos and passengers be banned, they can be just as distracting. Smoking or eating or reading a newspaper while driving sounds pretty bad but is quite widely done.

Things which should be illegal…

A law allowing citizens to push corrupt politicians into the nearest sea.
