LAX ATC problems

Los Angeles area ATC had a major failure of both its primary and backup ATC computer systems on Tuesday night. LAX was closed and aircraft aloft had to use their own systems to avoid each other. 🙁

What an insulting headline! “The repairman was asleep at the switch”
There are many possible reasons but IMHO that was the least likely!

There is a french expression in a such situation.

“Identify someone and punish an innocent!!!”

The reason being given for the breakdown is that because a routine 30 day checkup wasn’t made, the system automatically shut down. The ATC controllers union says that ‘there were 5 near misses’ 🙁

The most important thing is to reduce the costs, postpone the investments. In the mean time just pretend in front of the media that pax safety is the top priority.
