Lets hope they operate it better than flyglobespan’s attempt from Liverpool last year which was a bit of mess

No point in leaseing a 767 when as of this week Jet2 will have 10 757s with at least 4 of them having done tranatlantic flights with there previous owners!
By the way G-LSAJ has been in the paintshop at NWI since the 6th.
By: FlyMonarch - 11th May 2008 at 23:36
Why don’t they wet lease a 767 ?
WHY?? why when our own aircraft can do it? if CO an use a 75 n delta from time to time??? why spend more money wetleasing another companies 767 when we have a 75 to do it?

😀
Perhaps you’re too young to remember the Wardair 747s – pretty sure a Canadian airline also operated 757s to LBA as well (Odyssey? Nationair?)
Those services weren’t direct, though. 😉
Whatever happens, it will certainly be interesting to see how this develops. I’m sure even if Jet2 do plan on operating only a few flights for a short period of time, if it becomes evident the demand is there for it to be a more regular route, they’ll look into it. Either way, our first direct transatlantic route is something to get quite excited about as far as I’m concerned! 😀

Well G-LSAI, has had a new Seat concept applied to it for some time now, i think the 1st 5 rows have been given a make over, with new red leather seats, they are less bulky which gives it more leg room (well impression) and i think its these that will be replaced within the Fwd Cabin or atleast 1st 5 rows anyways!

Is there going to be a premium cabin on the a/c or will they just take a few seats out temporarily to create a premium feel??
I wouldn’t expect either. I think the deal is a seat at the front and an upgraded service rather than an actual premium cabin.

The website states about an upgrade package.
Is there going to be a premium cabin on the a/c or will they just take a few seats out temporarily to create a premium feel??
Would it really be worth upgrading the cabin for a few one-off charters?
This has some similarity to the Travelscope NYC charter from last year that were operated by Zoom from a number of UK airports. Travelscope now not operating anymore.

Just been wondering, How would they go with the little things such as IFE? As all Ls A/c have no tv’s or anything installed.?
This could be the reason why the aircraft has been so long in getting delivered! Full Interior conversion maybe, i even heard a rumour she is going to have winglets!

Hi
Jet2holidays are selling most of the LBA-New York flights as a 3-night charter package from £699 per person. Which includes return flights with an in-flight meal provided, 3 nights accommodation and all tax and charges. A Seat only option is available from Jet2.com’s own website as well. Flight prices starting from £237.99p one-way.
The route is to be operated direct by one of Jet2s own 230 seated Boeing 757-200’s. The Newly acquired G-LSAJ has been mentioned as the aircraft involved in this new operation, as it is already E-TOPS approved. (This is Tui’s ex G-CDUP). She is due for delivery to LBA on Sunday May 11th from Norwich were she is currently under going a re-spray.
LBA-EWR Flight details.
Outbound flight LS4001 will depart LBA at 09:00 and arrive Newark at 12:20 on Thursdays November 6th, November 13th, December 4th & December 11th.
The Returning LS4002 will depart EWR at 21:00 on Sundays November 9th, November 16th, December 7th & December 14th arriving back LBA early the next day (Monday) at 09:10.

Correct me if im wrong but is this not basically just a few flights, almost “charter like” for Christmas shopping?
If it was a frequent service then I can see it as big news, but for a short serious of flights that resembles Christmas charters I fail to see where all the excitement is coming from?
People i guess are getting excited because it is a first for leeds. as in a first long haul route and it is also by a low co airline. Im only guessing thats the reason!:)
By: FlyMonarch - 8th May 2008 at 19:51
FlyMonarch, as ever the prodigal gets there first!
Do you think they may be using a short series of charters for Jet2Holidays to establish whether or not a demand exists for the route?
1L.
Indeed!!! as always!!
Yeah, i think they are testing the water, as so with the Sharm, (which was operated by XL) but great news either way!! =]

Awesome news for LBA was hopeing they would do it from NCL but none the less its fantastic news!
Maybe now they will give us a look at G-LSAJ there newest 757 that is rumoured to be ETOPS equiped! Also she has hasn’t been seen for a few months since Jet2 purchased her!
