LBA to New York

Hey people, months back their was a T.V and newspaper report suggesting that Leeds/Bradford airport would be flying 3 times a week to the city of New York, on its website (LBA) it asked viewer what it thought of the idea

I would like to ask the members of the aviation forum what they think of it, when it will happen if it does get of, and finally which carriers would operate from LBA to NYC

I don’t think you were listening properly as they were reporting on a new service between York and Leeds Bradford Airport ……………… by bus!

How was the Monarch rumour anymore realistic than any others?!

I’m pretty sure for one that a Pakistan route will be starting, don’t know exact dates though.

i am sick of sifting through LBA related rubbish, a new service to Pakistan, a new service to New York. First choice basing in summer 2007 and doing long haul 😡 i know i posted about monarch but at least that does look a bit realistic.

nothing is happening stop going into a debate over some nonsense.

Are you a Mod??

All people are doing is discussing the merits of such a route there is nothing wrong with that. If you have nothing to contrebute dont post.

Just be thankful they wouldn’t use a 737 like a certain low cost airline did a few months back to canada What was it 7 hour flight 3 stops.

Continental use 757s to other European destinations that are further than BFS. Geneva, Barcelona and Olso

Also Berlin and Cologne, Geneva is a 762 flight 😉 :D.

Continental use 757s to other European destinations that are further than BFS. Geneva, Barcelona and Olso, but their 757s aren’t crammed with 220+ seats. They can operate to New York fairly comfortable 99% of the time.

I’ve no memory of FCA using an A321 on SFB services from anywhere in the UK, especially regularly. 757s yes, but A321s no. Most of bmi’s ‘own’ A321 fleet has been returned to lessor, I think there is only 2 or 3 left if even that.

Will an A321 operating at MTOW (performance issues out of LBA?) heading West be able to make New York everyday of the year, including during strong headwinds? I doubt it. I’m not too familar on A321 performance, but if it can do this, why is no one else using it on Trans-atlantic routes? Both the A320 and A319 have longer ranges than the A321, the relevance being that just because ther are (or should that be there is) A319 service(s) across the pond doesn’t mean an A321 can do it.

A LBA-NYC service wouldn’t be a great shock.
By bmi, it’d be slightly surprising.
By bmi, using A321s, highly unlikey.

The A319 also has a longer range than the A320 😉

I know that…why is that relevant to this discussion??

The daily Continental service from BFS to New York is operated by a 757.

Regards

John

The 757 can do the New york flights easily especially in CO’s seating cofig but FCA’s high density charter layout and that the flight distance to florida is almost 900 miles further then you will get what i mean.

If my memory is correct, I think a few years ago when Aer Lingus first received their A330`s or 340`s, not sure which.
But I think they considered LBA – DUB – NYC.
They actually did one flight from Leeds to Dublin with an A330/340.

After speaking to someone in bmi a few days ago they implied bmi long haul from BFS is something being considered along with a 90% confirmed LHR route. Would be good to see for BFS as the only option for travelling from NI is either CO (which isnt the cheapest) or an extra 3 hours by car to get to Dublin Airport!

Definately not BMI but I think something is going to be announced shortly.
Maybe Continental? Surely not Jet2? But who else?
