LBA… With A Very Special Arrival 2-7-08

Hi All,

I took a trip to LBA this evening (courtesy of Preston Taxi’s of Thornton) to catch PIA’s inaugural flight from Islamabad. Just a few randoms first… All taken using a Canon 30D + EF 70-200L f.4.

And here she is. I have to admit, I do have something of a soft spot for the A310. Both times I’ve been to The Azores involved flights on the A310 and they were wonderful trips, so I have very fond memories of flying on them and it’s great to see them occasionally. That being the case, to see one at my beloved home airport really is fantastic. We watched her on a friend’s SBS come in over Skegness and establish on final for 32, and although the sun may have disappeared for her arrival, she glided in to one of the most graceful landings I’ve ever seen at LBA. It really was a beautiful touchdown… Her first entrance to LBA couldn’t have been more perfect.

The Cemetary was packed, far more so than I’ve ever seen before and there was just a great atmosphere in general. All in all, a fantastic evening. 🙂

Thanks for looking!

Comments like that from people I have great respect for really do make this hobby mean something a little more than simply taking a few photos. Thankyou mate… WAC!

And thankyou everyone else as well. Your kind words really are appreciated. 🙂

As Northern Git would say….. Spotter! 😉

Strangely enough, my favourite has to be the first PIA one.

Great news for LBA. Is this an all year round operation then ? What day and time does it arrive / depart ?

Lucky the PIA plane didn’t get ‘stuck in an air pocket and damage its mirrors’ like this one!:D

Interesting name for an aviation viewing park! I suppose it’s a change from The Airport Hotel (MAN) or the Green Man (LHR)

Rgds Cking

We’re not MAN or LHR… We have to make do with what we have! 😀

Has to be said, the cemetary really is a wonderful spot if they’re on 14.

Thankyou for your kind works, all. 🙂

Very nice. Good lighting conditions. The Air Southwest and the Midland A319 are spot on!

Tenthije, the problem with the PK A310s has been resolved. The Glasgow flights have started back again a few months ago.

I thought that PIA was only allowed to use their 777s to Europe, and that their A310s and 747s where banned. Did this change?

Nice photos though! I like your first PIA shot best.

How much runway did it use up on rollout?

Thanks, Lee! She rolled right the way down 32 to the loop, although I suspect she could have stopped way before it. The assembled crowd at the Cemetary didn’t mind though… It gave us a great view as she turned around to backtrack!

Excellent shots Paul. Good to see some variation in traffic at any local. I dont get over to LBA much at all (as near as it is to my house), but used to watch aircraft getting vectored for approaches onto 32 as they flew right over my house.

That is some major downslope on 32 shown in your first picture!!!! How much runway did it use up on rollout?

Lee
