Many of the non-airline sites don’t seem to allow you to book last minute tickets, so I agree with OneLeft, I always book with the airline directly. You can get last minute deals occisionally but I’ve generally found you’re not really given much of a discount. I’ve booked flights on the internet at 7am and been flying the same day at 1pm (amazing what boredom will make you do) and walked up to the bmi counter at Heathrow, bought a flight and been in the air an hour and a half later, but the prices I paid were pretty much normal. Airlines tend not to just throw cheap seats away. If there’s a chance they can sell them at full price, they will do!

To be honest I always end up going back to the airline websites themselves. I’m not convinced the non-airline sites are any better.

Just re-read your post and had a thought.
If the question you are asking is would the ticket desk knock you out a ticket for a fiver rather than fly an empty seat, the answer is no. They can only sell at the fares available in the reservations system, they don’t make decisions about fares themselves.

It’s always possible to just turn up at a ticket desk and buy a ticket to somewhere. It’s always possible that there might be some bargains to be had, and I’m sure the staff would have a look for you if you ask nicely.
In saying that, with internet booking being the big thing these days (and where the deals usually are) you’d be better sitting down tonight and looking through the different websites until you find something that suits.
Enjoy wherever you go, and post us some photos.
