London City airport is to offer a series of new destinations as part of
a £40 million expansion.
The number of travellers using the airport is set to rise from two
million this year to at least 3.5 million by 2010. There are plans to
enlarge the terminal building and to provide more space for aircraft.
The airport hopes to offer flights to Glasgow and Newcastle this year
and is looking at links with Copenhagen, Stockholm, Madrid, Milan and
Vienna by the end of 2006. It now serves 23 destinations, 14 of them on
the Continent.

Flybe have pulled all of their routes to LCY – it is too costly an airport for a LCC.
The ARJ100 was too big an aircraft for GLA-LCY.
Scot Airways had a good product on the GLA-LCY route, with a lot of regular customers. A lot of these customers were lost to Scot Airways in the aftermath of 9/11 when they had to operate in and out of Biggin Hill for a while, making it just as easy to use LHR or LGW – that and companies tightening their corporate travel budgets.

BA said pax numbers were good but they did not see it as a growing route and that is why they droped GLA-LCY. GLA-LCY can work, i think FlyBe would be the best airline to fly this route and it would happend with all the new routs they have announced this year and in 2004 from GLA.

GLA-LCY doesn’t work.
Many have tried and failed.
LCY is predominantly a business airport. Thats why EDI-LCY doing well, as its Biz airport to Biz Airport. GLA has a percentage of business travel, but not enough for an LCY route (going by past services)
Still, they can always try, if they have the money. Any new route to and from Scotland is good news. Who knows… maybe the potential has increased since it was last attempted

…………………. and I believe that it is Euromanx who are making noises about LCY – GLA too. VLM considered the route but the FK50 is not suitable!
